“Come near to God, and God will come near to you. You sinners, clean sin out of your lives. You who are trying to follow God and the world at the same time, make your thinking pure.” – James 4:8

This verse meant a lot to me this morning. Especially the part that says, “you who are trying to follow God and the world at the same time, make your thinking pure.”

So often we hear the lie of the enemy telling us that if we miss out on the things of this world, we are missing out on life. So what so we do? Deep down in our hearts we know that Christ is the Only Way and the Best Way, so we follow Him, but then our flesh tells us that we are missing out on something great if we don’t run after the passions and desires of this world. So we start following the ways of this world. What we are then left with is a deep emptiness. We wonder why our lives aren’t overflowing with Joy, but it’s because we truly believe we are running after God, when really we are running in circles. A battle within the heart; the spirit battling the flesh.

God’s Word says, if you are trying to follow God and this world at the same time, make your thinking pure!.. we can’t go in two different paths, and the world will not lead us to what we truly desire. True Life is found only in Following Christ!

So to the double-minded; purify your hearts by removing yourself from the affairs of this world. To those who are desperately wanting God, forget what the world has to offer. It is nothing of value. Come to God, just as you are, and He will come near to you!

Prayer:

God, forgive me for all of my sins. Open the eyes of my heart. Cause me to come near to You! This world pulls me in every direction but the only direction I want to go is towards You. I need You every hour. Fill me with Your Peace and make my thinking pure. I desire You above all else. Please draw close to me. Give me victory over all that has come against me. I trust in YOUR unfailing Love! Thank You for always Loving me and never giving up on me. In Jesus Name, Amen!
