“You’re a failure! You can’t do anything right. You will never be able to accomplish this or that. You will never overcome so and so. You might as well just give up on trying, because it’s pointless.” Does this sound familiar to anyone? Or maybe something like it? Have you ever battled thoughts like this in your mind or been to the point of despair due to the constant bombard of thoughts like these?
If these are the thoughts going through your mind, know that all of it is a lie. And I want to encourage you to take those thoughts and jail them when they come to mind. One thing the enemy is great at, is lying. God’s Word says that the enemy comes only to steal, kill, and destroy. The enemy hates those who have been created in God’s image so much–especially those who are His Children– that he will do anything to steal the joy that God calls them to; kill the desires that God desires to place within them; and destroy their life by speaking to them constant lies, so that they will give up fighting and give in to the thoughts.
The mind is a constant battleground, and we need to know how to discern and expose the lies of the enemy by uncovering the Truth from the Word of God.
The greatest way to do this is by saturating yourself in God’s Word and prayer. As I write about this, there are just a few things I have heard before that I’d like to point out. I’ve heard it said before that Christians don’t deal with depression, and that is a total lie itself. I’ve also heard it said before, that those who are truly walking with Christ will not have any negative thoughts. These are just big lies and tactics from the enemy to make us feel isolated, which is super dangerous in our Christian walk. When someone feels isolated and alone is when the enemy will have great impact on them. So I just wanted to point this out to those who might be feeling that way. I have several passages of scripture that come to mind when I think of this, but I don’t want to get sidetracked from what I want to say here, so maybe I’ll save that for a later posting. In this post I want to expose a few lies that I hear the enemy tell others as well as what he has told me, so that way we can uncover Truths from God’s Word about who we are in Him, in contrast to these lies. I truly believe that those who desire to seek God with their whole hearts will have the enemy lie to them, and they will have to learn how to take those thoughts captive DAILY to the obedience of Christ. “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” – 2 Corinthians 10:5. So Let’s look at the one lie the enemy is known to tell many of God’s Children.
Lie #1. “You are so worthless! God doesn’t care about you, why do you even walk His direction?”
Let’s expose this FAT LIE, with a Truth from God’s Word, and uncover what God thinks of us!
God’s Word tells us that we were bought with a price! God purchased us with the blood of His Only Son Jesus Christ. We can find this in: 1 Corinthian 6:20 as well as 1 Corinthian 7:23. We are worth so much that Christ gave His Life to purchase us. His LIFE!– Worth more than all the money or greatest treasures the world can offer, the Life of Jesus Christ paid to purchase us from the slavery of sin to Life everlasting! The enemy knows this, so in order to keep us from knowing that, he tells us lies that we are worthless. God cares for us so greatly, that when we are burdened, He says to come to Him with whatever it may be and throw it on Him. “Casting all your anxieties/cares on Him, because He cares for you.” – 1 Peter 5:7. ALL. ALL. ALL our anxieties or cares! Pay attention to the word “casting”. Jesus didn’t say, to gently hand over your burdens, but to CAST THEM onto Him. He pretty much says, “Don’t carry them anymore! THROW them on Me and I will take them for you!” Guys, this is LOVE! So if the enemy has been lying to you, by telling you that you are worthless, know that You are worth so much more!
Lie #2. “Yeah, Jesus paid for the sins of the whole world, but not for yours.”
This lie kinda goes with the last one, but I believe the enemies next tactic to keep up from believing the Truth about who we are in Christ would be to cause us to doubt the TRUTH of God redeeming us by His Life? If we believe we are not part of those whom God redeemed, then every lie the enemy hands us will eventually drown us in emotional pain. So how can we expose this one? First, I assume that you are indeed a follower of Christ. For Christ did die for the sins of the whole world, but those who do not believe (FAITH as an action) in His only Son, Jesus Christ, their sins still remain. So to the believer who is challenged with this lie, I would first say to him, “You must be a BIG threat to the enemy if he is doing all he can to take you down.” In Matthew 4, when Jesus went into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil, we are told three of the temptations that Jesus was challenged with. One of which was questioning Jesus’ Identity as the Son of God. “If You are the Son of God,” he (the devil) said, “throw yourself down. For it is written: “‘He will command His angels concerning You, and they will lift You up in their hands, so that You will not strike Your foot against a stone.'” – Matthew 4:6
Here we see exactly what the enemy is doing, he is pretty much telling Jesus, “come on? If You really are God’s Son, then prove it? Are you sure You are? Throw Yourself off this building and see if God will really save You.” Jesus knew His identity, He didn’t give into the temptation, but rather responded with Scripture (Matthew 4:7), which is exactly what we need to be able to do when the enemy comes at us with temptation or a lie. So what scripture do I have for lie #2. I would highly recommend anyone wanting to come against this lie to read the whole book of Ephesians! It is filled with Scripture telling us who were before we knew Christ, to who we are now with Christ! But lets look at 1 John 2:2. “And He (Jesus) is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.” Christ died for the sins of the whole world. Not just a few, but to EVERYONE who calls on His name, they will be saved! (Romans 10:13)
“In love He (God) predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with His pleasure and will— to the praise of His glorious grace, which He has freely given us in the One He loves. In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that He lavished on us. “ – Ephesians 1:5-8
God LOVES His Children with a Love that is greater than anything this world can offer. I want to write about this verse more, but due to the length of this post, I am going to move on to the third lie I wanted to cover.
Lie #3. “You failed again, you messed up and gave into temptation. Do you really think God wants you in His Presence?”
Oh how the enemy tries to continually condemn God’s Children, but the truth to expose this lie is the same Truth that exposed the first lie I wrote about. We were bought with a price! We no longer belong to the enemy! We are no longer his (the enemies) to be condemned, in fact God’s Word says this. “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.” – Romans 8:1-2
The enemy can scream at the top of his lungs at the times we mess up, telling us that we are condemned and God has left us. But God’s Word declares to us that in Him, we are no longer condemned! In 2 Timothy 2:13, Paul tells Timothy, “if we are faithless, He (Jesus) remains faithful, for He cannot disown Himself.” This is such a power verse. As Children of God, if we fall, Christ won’t abandon us! He is FAITHFUL and His Love for us never changes, but remains the same Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow! If we fall, we can call out to Him, and He will answer and save us quickly!
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” – 1 John 1:9
Due to the length of this post, Im going to stop here. Maybe I will write later on other lies I believe the enemy commonly uses to tell God’s Children! Just like identity theft, if the enemy can steal your identification in Christ, then he can steal everything you own and are in Christ! So protect that identity by saturating Yourself in prayer and in God’s Word!
“For in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith.” – Galatians 3:26
I pray that this video by Jason Gray will be the song/prayer we sing when the enemies lies come to belittle Who we are! Remind me who I am God! Remind me that I am LOVED by YOU!
