The Sin of Silence

In 1933, the population of Germany was around 60 million people. More than 95 percent of the population was said to be Christian- either Roman Catholic or Protestant. My question: what had happened to Germany in a couple years that caused Germany to be the community in which some of the worlds most evil took place? What happened in the Churches of Germany that within a couple years, a wicked leader was made to lead the population of an almost total Christian nation? Do you want to know the answer? The answer is one of the biggest sins that exist today, and I am seeing it happen once again. The sin of Silence!

“Don’t you know? It was for FREEDOM that Christ set us free. So DO NOT BE BURDENED again with the yoke of slavery.” – Galatians 5:1

A Cargo train full of hundreds and hundreds of Jews was passing by a Church full of Christians. The Jews were headed to a destination where they would be killed, many tortured, and the majority humiliated before their death. As they passed by a Church they cried for help at the top of their lungs. As the cries reached the ears of the Christians, the Christians would begin to sing as to drown out the disturbing cries of the Jews. The louder the cries, the louder the Christians would sing.

When thinking about that story, many people wonder: How could Christians have let something so horrible like that happen? Again, the answer is: the sin of Silence! We seem to take stands for things that don’t matter, and the things that do matter we don’t take a stand for at all. We have allowed sin to infiltrate our Churches, and in the name of “Love” we don’t expose sin for what it is. When Christian leaders final have a large platform where they can take a stand for Christ in front of all men, the majority of them seem to cave in and remain silent, so as to not offend anyone with the reasoning that it might cause others to have a negative feeling towards the Church. Really? I ask? Do we make the Church attractive by making it like the world? If someone wants the world, why would they come to Church to get it in smaller amounts when the world can give it to them in large portions? When the Church becomes like the world, so ready to please others, it looses its effect.

American Christianity, like many others have warned before, is almost dead. We do not fight for the injustices around us anymore, and we are desensitized to the wicked acts around us. As millions of God’s dearly loved Children are murdered day after day, the Churches hardly speak about it. (Wade vs Roe). Today in a world where almost every Christian has a platform of some kind, such as a facebook, twitter, instagram, or other social media platform, we rarely ever look at it as the stage God has given us to raise a voice and take a stand against injustice. I remember last year, when many Christians were beheaded by ISIS. I logged on to one of my social media platforms, and lo and behold, my news feed was filled with condolences to a lion named Cecil…. Do I need to say more?

History repeats itself. Nations rise and nations fall. When a Nation seeks God, it is blessed, but when it turns away from Him, it falls. Christians, will we remain silent as injustice spreads through our Land? Will we allow ourselves to be burdened with the yoke of slavery again? Can I persuade you to re-look at the definition of LOVE in God’s Word and ask you to show me where it says that LOVE is silent? If Love doesn’t compel you to have a sense of urgency to FIGHT against evil, then believe me, it isn’t Love at all. Love doesn’t put its arm around its neighbor walking to the depths of hell and say, “Its ok, continue where you are headed, I won’t judge you.” Love grasps those who are dying off the road of eternal destruction and onto the path of Life!

Please hear me, if we don’t start using the Freedom we have now to take a stand and demolish evil, there will be a day when that freedom is gone. Use the platform you have now to take a bold stand for Christ! The unpopular route is not always the easiest, but is always worth it!
